I cover ground quickly early Spring dropping my minnow tipped jig in and around this wood........staging crappie will aggressively strike often a reaction bite and once you catch one you cover the structure methodically often catching 20 to 30 in one location this time of year........

This particular creek is six feet deep in the middle with a slow up slope with down timber in two to four feet.....an absolute sure bet for crappie going shallow.......the older the fall the easier to fish as the little limbs have left more of a slick trunk and larger limbs if you will......often you must drop your bait in little pockets but that's part of it........lose some baits but that's another reason I use heavy line to straighten out hooks to recover gear............
