Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This 15 pound carp struck a #2 jigging Rap with a waxie and gave me a long, long fight on 4-pound test. It's not too often I catch a fish longer than my rod!

You know everytime i catch a carp i always end up disappointed at first.. Youre always expecting a big bass or nice cat then that first site of a scaley ugly carp pops up to kill your thunder.. bastard carps..

Hey Jeff...my largest ice caught bluegill, 11.5 inches, took a # 5 Rap right off the bottom in 25 ft at Deep Creek Lake. That's a bigger item, but I'll bet you are onto something with the # 2 as a summer vertical gig at Perris. I have a few applications I might try it here in Maryland when summer hits...

Thanks for the idea!

I too enjoy carp...any time I can catch a big fish in February, I'm happy!

Just had a thought Jim.... Have you ever used that jigging Rapala when the gills are in deeper water in the summertime?  I'll bet that little size would work on my Lake Perris when they are down 15 to 20 feet.... Going to have to get a couple and try them!

Great fish!  I love carp, but man, they sure can be a disappointment when you think you have hooked into a big bass!

The reel is a low end Okuma ul  reel with 4 pound florescent blue Stren. It has a great drag, however.

I honestly thought I had a giant largemouth as this lake has reportedly produced fish over 10 lbs.
