Yeah they were chasing the gills when we'd reel them in

One if my favorite fish to catch. I don't catch A LOT of them, but I get them in that size range when baitfish come close to shore cover in early spring, late fall, etc.
They are cold water fish, and theoretically, fall through spring should be a good time to catch them here in the South.

25" and fat I'd say between 3,1/2 and 4 lbs . is what you have there!

Was my 1st and only pickerel, I wasn't to say 25" and we didn't weigh it. Was a great lake for panfishing, bluegill, pumpkinseed, Rockies, black crappie, yellow perch and pickerel were all on fire

Great looking pickerel...23-24 inches?

We have great pickerel fish here in Maryland and Delaware in millponds of the Delmarva Pennisula and adjacent tidal flows.

Loch Raven, a water supply reservoir just north of Baltimore, may be the best Back East lake for high numbers of 3 to 5 pound fish, yet local regulations limit boating volumne and access.

These guys are a blast to catch. Usually feels like a train has hooked up and the fight is on. In my neck of the woods I have caught very few pickerel but what we don't have we have a little larger fish to takes its place. In Ohio and Michigan we have the dreaded tooty also known as the norther pike. Many hours of enjoyment chasing them bad boys. I love catching both but the northern get larger and the fight reflects it.
