Allen, I wouldn't know a midge hatch if it bit me on the keester.
But I suppose I should lay in some #18's and give em a whirl.
Thanks for the tip.

David, wait until you catch a midge hatch in the middle of Winter.  You'll want some size 18 - 20 Griffith's Gnats for that, or some of those Midge Emergers with the foam strike indicator I posted up a few weeks ago.

You're right, Rick. I'm not accustomed to thinking smaller than size 12.
Bluegill, at least here, seem content to take baits/hooks up around size 6, while red ear will
go for size 4 and even 2. So going down to 16, even 20 seems like an exercise in frustration.
I have some 16-18 dry hooks that have been around my tackle store since I can remember.
Originally, I believe they were my dads. They are so old, the feather hackles turned to dust
and disappeared. I stripped them and tried a few ties on these, with some success.
I'm not sure, however, that it is necessary to go that small.
The one reason I can see useful is tying tiny nymphs for popper-dropper combos. I've tried this in the past, so I might tie some generic 16 nymphs for that purpose.

David , thinking small is a good thing to add to you bag of tricks....

Good point.

The only thing is I'd still have to put it on the dining room table cause I have to be by Linda so I guess I might as well stay where I'm at. I have 2 bedrooms and a bath upstairs along with a L shaped puter that would work great but guess I'll have to play it safe and just be  a room away.

Dick some of the self-contained, portable tying desks are really up your alley. You should check into them.

I unfortunately use the dining room table which is fine cause we usually eat in the family room but come holiday's I have to hall all my stuff to the garage so we can have the table and dining room.

Yeah, I've seen some other tier's benches.  Very impressive things, especially because they're usually dirt-cheap.

Ive got both a headmount magnifier and a magnifying lamp, Allen. You can get both at Hobby Lobby or ebay. I picked up the head mount from ebay and the magnifying lamp was taken from a rubbish bin!
I couldnt work without them for long.

I did set up an area of my inside work bench for tying, Its in our "craft room," for lack of a better term. All my tools and supplies are there. My next step is to build some more shelves in the room for growing collection of tying stuff. The vice mounts to the bench and can be removed if I need the space for other projects. DO a little digging around the internet and youll see all kinds of space saving fly tying benches, tables, and platforms. You will be very glad the day you move to a dedicated area.
