Dick - I used a product by Wapsi called "Streach Tubing" Comes in several colors or you can get it in clear and use whatever color you want and it will show through.

Rick what did you use for the bodies for you midges

Comment by Rick King on February 8, 2013 at 7:30am

Vince - you can fish plain or tip them......both work well at times

Nice stuff Rick I couldn't see a #14 hook to tie let alone a #18 I remember when youth was a great thing now I can just reminisce about it. Good Ties Rich.

Another example of the great talent we have on this site! I have not tried tying any thing smaller than a size 10 so far. I guess I need to step out of my comfort zone and give some 12's and 14's a try.  Do you tip these or fish them plain?

Rick

Gills love 14 - 16. Midges are great fished under a float kind of like a modified float and fly rig. The float adds rocking action and serves as the indicator  I use them fixed line with a 9 foot telescopic pole and a .5 gram Bentley Float. The all red looks exactly like a blood worm. Don't be afraid to go small, most of what bluegill eat is small and below the surface.

Jim, I figure that any trout worth his colors will hit - 14s 16s and 18s, not planning on any 20s or 22s. I beleive most ot the ties will be good for gills also.........
