Do you love big bluegill?
One of my favorite sounds in the coastal marsh......the call of the male red-winged blackbird.......

Agree Jeff......I always associate them with the marsh around water........I can remember the early days back in Louisiana with my dad fishing a popping bug and all you would hear were the call of the male red winged blackbird and the popping sound of the bug during draw back.......those were definitely the good ole days......
These beautiful birds always remind me of my fishing youth; when I first got my driver's license way back in 1967 (I'm dating myself here), and had that "freedom" to go to any lake I wanted. These birds were never around my home, but always seems to be out in the countryside at whatever lake I was visiting. The Redwing Blackbird, the Western Meadowlark and the Great Blue Heron are the three birds that always remind me of fishing. I love birds anyway so seeing and hearing them while out fishing is just an extra treat, aside from the fishing itself!
I hope it's not dead Allen.....fingers crossed.......
I need to check the pond at work, see if any of these birds are there yet. I should also try and see if the pond is, in fact, dead, like I think it is.....
They don't like you fishing around their nest but normally pretty easy going.......I found a nice bluegill bed last May and a pair of these guys were nested in the bushes right above it.....the female cut up all morning trying to get me to leave.......
always fun to watch and hear these birds!
heard some calling wednesday.too bad i could not see them as i was clearing the 7 inches of ice and snow we got over night.i an really done with this winter
Holy cow, that's a great shot!
You're right, these are really nice birds to see. I was in the Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky Midwest the first half of my life, and these were abundant along the highways.
