I fully agree with the decision, especially since you turned it loose. Heck I would have probably cut the line even if it was going in my cooler to be cleaned later.

So as Jim mentioned you did what you should have and sometimes things do not work out the way as planned.

Despite the notion that cats can tolerate just about anything, they are quite vulnerable to skin deseases and infections, including deep hooksets and damage to mouth tissue due to hooks. Like you, I would have cut the line rather than risk a deeper injury if I would have tried to dig the hook out.

Rest assured that you made the best decision. Nice catch BTW!

I did not try, it was too far down. I had him with the gill up MR, but he kept turning over. In an attempt not to have him out of the water too long, I just tossed him back.

Did you attempt to get the hook out first or not even try?

Cats are supposed to be pretty good at either breaking them down or digesting them. Now this may just be a myth.

Thanks for the pics.

I could not get the hook out, I cut him loose. He was out of the water less than a minute so I could take a picture. Guess that was too long.

Thats odd, did you have a hard time getting the hook out, or was he out of the water long?

Looks like you have a nice mix of sunfish in your pond.
