Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This fly looks like a bottle brush, and is very cool. It's just a light wire #10 or 12 hook, two neck hackle feathers in tandem and thread. It's a version of the Stewart Fly. Super easy and low cost.
You tie the two hackles on after laying down a thread base, winding from the hook bend forward. A small black head finishes the fly.
In the warm months, when lots of bugs are flying around, this gets some savage strikes when it alights. It's designed to mimic a wingy flying critter, plopping down on the water. Because it is more feather than hook, it lands gently and floats for a very long time. If you are gentle, you can twitch it as a surface fly. After several minutes, it starts to sink and becomes a soft-touch wet fly!
If nothing happens, give it a few hauls to dry it out and recast near cover or above weed beds. This one took two nice fish - now it's going to John Sheehan for him to have a go.
