Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I went for bream... but I'm a mississippi boy, and I was weaned on catfish! I have peanut oil and Zaterains cornmeal waiting. These are some FAT little cats! My freezer will be full of fillets. YES! I'm stoked! The moon was huge, and bright enought to rig lines by. A 70 degree FL night, barefoot on the dock... life is GOOD!

Wow, I wouldn't complain with a kitchen like that, either!

Ohhhh, you mean the fish! ;-)

My belly is full of bream and black bullhead fillets... BURRRP!!! I would say black bullhead are in between yellows and greys, as far as taste... Greys are as tasty as a PERFECT Flathead from clean water, and hard to beat! Yellows are flavorful... but they can taste a bit muddy. Black bullheads are NOT muddy, and have excellent flavor. Very tasty, but they don't make folks yell out like greys do! Everyone was asking for seconds... but with greys or flatheads, they wouldn't ask, they'd lunge and TAKE!

Very tasty! I'd say just as good as blue cats... and I had SO MUCH FUN! The big one is the state record, and it's safe in the freezer... Cleaned a cooler of bream and bullheads, floating in ice today. About 3 hours of cutting fish, and I have at least 20 lb of fillets in the freezer! I was up fishing until 3 am, and never made it back to the lake today. Maybe tomorrow night, after I work a day for a friend... I've found a john boat that will get me to the bream beds across the lake... but I'm wondering if it's fair to catch them on the beds in such a small lake. Hmmmm.... Maybe I'll just go C&R some HUGE bass! Yeah! I can't turn down an evening in a john boat on my favorite pond...

OH YEAH! The biggest of the black bullheads has tooth scratces down its hide on both sides... one of the big bass probably tried to eat it on the stringer! There were times when there was a LOT of splashes coming from my stringer, but I had 14 fish on it at the end, so I thought it was just the bullheads... NOPE! One of the bass tried to eat him... a bass that can chew on a whole 2 lb 6.1 oz bullhead! It was Cthulu, the one that will break the FL record, if I can ever get it out of the water! I've made it dance... i could probably fit my head in it's mouth!

   I'm fishing hard tomorrow!
