Do you love big bluegill?

I hear you on the mail order. I order spikes (maggots) the same way, as my local bait shop doesn't carry them. They are my favorite soft bait, but the summer heat makes shipping a risky proposition, so I usually switch to waxworms and mealworms during the warmer months. I think I will start raising my own mealworms, my father-in-law does, and has great luck with them.
I'm definitely going to try them Tony...they're not available anywhere locally so I'll mail order...my wax worms didn't hold on very long but they did catch fish!
Jeffrey, I know I talk a lot about using waxworms, but have you ever tried mealworms? I run the hook through the tail end one time, and let the rest dangle. They are hardier than waxworms, and they wiggle a lot..... it is a killer on a slow fall presentation..
I presented this bait tipped and without a split shot so it would take it a minute to reach two feet if it made it...the neat thing was watching the bait fall and get struck hard just below the surface like this fish....I was still watching it when the float took a sonic boom to the depths...
