It is pretty typical of my pond as the water is pretty green this summer and visibilty is running around 11". This male would be a lot darker if he was still guarding a bed. Bluegill caught in low visibility water outside the spawn will be very light colored as well.

The red spots are blood, I got jabbed pretty good when I unhooked this redear.
