LEO;; INDEPENDANT STATION OWNERS; CAN PRETTY MUCH CHARGE WHAT THEY WANT TO;; THE REAL FUN THO;; IS WATCHING ALL GAS HAULING TRUCKS;; FILL THEIR TRUCKS FROM A GAS TANK FARM; THEN DELIVER TO ALL TYPES OF GAS STATIONS !  CHEVRON; BP; SHELL'' YOU NAME IT !   ALL THE GAS COMES  FROM A TANK DISTRUBITION FARM;; THEN DELIVERED !!

Now, that's odd. I just came back from the LV, and the surrounding NV southeastern areas. My credit cards all came back with $150 overhead limits. My friends filled up at $110 mark, and we only hit $40, for our trucks, minivans, and boats.

I know exactly which station you're talking about. Same with a few Chevrons going up towards the 40, 95, and 163. They were stuck at $3.59 and $3.79. Luckily I had just enough gas to jump over to the AZ side, and filled up at $2.29. While in Needles and Laughlin, gas on NV side was $3.19, while AZ remained at $2.19 to $2.59. Not sure why the gas was so oddly priced.

The mileage isn't stellar, no, but if I wanted good mileage, I wouldn't have bought a motorhome <g>

It has a Ford 6.8L V-10, a 5.38 axle ratio, and a 75-gallon gas tank. That sounds like a lot, but I wish the tank were bigger. Towing the Odyssey, running the generator almost all the time to drive the roof A/C in the back, and dealing with lots of long, steep grades, my best single-tank mileage of the trip was 6.23. Worst was 4.49. Average since purchase is 5.45.

The biggest hassle is actually gas stations out on the interstate that have a $100 limit, or even $75. My best friend told me about one in the Vegas area that even caps it at $50. When you hit the limit, you have to either change cards or schlep into the building to let them hold your card. This is at truck stop-adjacent "travel centers," even. You'd think they'd never heard of RVs, with limits like that. Even a lot of pick-up trucks can probably bust the $75 ceiling, I would guess.

Oh, and speaking of gas stations, if you're driving between Vegas and points in California, avoid Cima Road Shell unless you absolutely must fill up there, which is maybe 20 or 30 miles northeast of Barstow on I-15; last week, they were charging $3.99/gallon for regular. They must think it's last summer, or something :p I filled there because I was into my discomfort zone (gauge was dropping below 1/4) because of unexpectedly strong headwinds all the way down from Vegas. The math says I probably could have made Barstow, but since I wasn't carrying a jackrabbit pump to steal from the Odyssey and give it to the motorhome, I didn't chance it.

I'm going to get a pump, though LOL

From the description, it was a splendid trip. With that kind of hauling load, the fuel costs must not be kind to your wallet.

Any wild fish is a great tasting fish, with all the hard work it must undertakes for its meals. Cold water, naturally feeding fish, and you got yourself a great tasting morsel.

It was really great to get out, Carl, and only the second time this year. First was in late spring when we made a one-night trip out to the Colorado River at Winterhaven. I came away with only a single flathead cat, but it was fun, and the fish was good eating.

Yeah, that's our motorhome, Leo, all 36 feet of it. We bought it used in November, and this was it's first major trip. It did fairly well on the big western grades, even towing that heavy Odyssey behind it. I still wish I could afford a diesel, but that Ford V-10 got it done :) We also visited Yellowstone on the return leg, but there was no time to fish there.

The Sheridan Lake rainbows are amazing. They're wild, really strong, easier to catch than hatchery trout in California (I kid you not), taste great, and that amazing natural salmon color is awesome!
