I have some spin-fly rods on which I've mounted under spin, trigger reels. It's a great light tackle combination. Very fast and handy.
I'm fairly convinced even branded "light" weight rods are...
1. Too short
2. Too stiff
So this makes total sense. It's a bit of a 'knuckler' when a decent catfish or bass shows up, but I can't think of a time where I was broken off by a behemoth for taking my small bluegill offerings.

hahahah;;  I call it a combination effort!!  the quill is painted a bit of ;; black on the bottom;; chartuse in the middle;; hot red of sorts on top.  black and chartuse are proven fish attractors;;  so;; that;; with a rascal;; and a small piece of nite crawler;;  he didn't stand a chance!!
