That's cool and a unique fish. Thanks for sharing and enlightening me!

Most think the "Wiper" moniker is a combination of White bass and strIPER.  However, some folks will also point to old Jerry Clower, on one of the fishing shows way-back-when (was it Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, or someone else), and ol' Jerry would always comment that those things would "Wipe your Tackle Box out!"

Mike - It's a white bass x striped bass cross. They have the thermal tolerance of a white bass, but some of the size and strength of a striper. Our state record is just over 22 lbs. I believe, so I need to let this one grow and 5 or 6 pounds before I catch him again :)

Beautiful fish! Bucket list for me. Striper/White Bass hybrid .Called wipers here in NJ.

So I've never heard of a "wiper" before. Is that a striped bass and large mouth bass hybrid?

Wipers are super fish! Love it!

6'10" light action spinning rod with 8# braid and an 8# fluorocarbon leader. Caught on an 1/8-oz. jighead with a 4" shad body. We were fishing for walleye at the time, but this guy intervened. Caught a second one the same day that went 27."
