We will be able to drain it, Tony, but normally will harvest by seining.  The majority of the pond will be four feet deep or less, facilitating seining.  A small area less than 1/4 acre by the dam will be between eight and ten feet deep for winter refuge since this pond will be growing bluegill native to Florida.  

Nathan, yes, these fish are being raised to sell for pond stocking.  There aren't any fish in there yet - the charter inhabitants are waiting in a 4X2X3 cage made from PVC and plastic mesh, in a pond about a quarter mile away on the same property.  The pond didn't have water in it when I brought them up from Florida a little over a month ago.  I'm just waiting a couple more days until the pond gets a little fuller and then they'll be transplanted into their new home.

Very cool, do you raise them to transplant them into other peoples pond? How many are in there?

What's the plan for removing the fish Walt? Seine, or does it drain completely?

I suppose you could call it custom, Nate.  It was dug specifically for one purpose, i.e. raising bluegill.

Leo, if you mean on the right side of the photo, that's the road that runs alongside the pond.  I was standing on the dam when I took the photo.

Splendid looking pond. Looks like a very productive pond in the near future. Is that the check dam at the top of the picture?
