Mark,
Before I bought the first spool of thread, I spent a lot of time around the net, mostly Ward Beans', "Warm Water Fly Tier." He pretty much served as my initial inspiration. The thought in my mind was that fly tying has been around for centuries, even millennia. I didn't need to re-invent the wheel.
I just followed his general instructions. To the letter? Well, I won't say that....

It was the first fly I ever tied - and it caught my first fish on a fly rod.
