Many crappie can be lost when the hook tears through their “paper” mouths…..you can see this 1/32 ounce Eagle Claw jig got into the upper cartlidge…this fish is not coming off….this is from lifting up with a telescopic pole on the strike…

thanks Jeffrey!
Thanks John…..I’m so very thankful that I was able to learn about fishing from both of my grandfathers……..I still use those shared methods often and they would both be very happy to know that I’m as successful as I am…..you have done very well with your investment John…..
Your Grandfather taught you, then consider. yourself fortunate. I never knew a Grand pa but put my time in Fishing thats for certain!
All great points John…….I was taught by my grandfather to always net a crappie if possible….it’s amazing how many times the hook will just come out on its own when the net slacks your line….
Aberdeen light wires are my favorite Crappie hooks for reducing the amount of Fish that get off. When I catch them vertically and hook them in the roof of the mouth there's a solid hookset that doesn't tear a release hole. Still always play a Crappie slow and steady to the net is my rule of Thumb and it's served me well.
