I was hoping youd say that. LOFR!

I have some nice 4" quill floats I made up that should work well as you suggest. I was wondering about this, keeping a couple of FLY RODS ready - one set up this way. I like it!

David , I use the fly rod like a long pole when working up close but also have a 30 ft casting range with quill and cricket, Imagine a tankara  or cane pole with adjustable line, still have all the feeling and sensitivity with line and handle but the ability to get extra distance when needed.   When I run out of crickets I'll put on a fly then it's long distance fishing If I have enough room for a 75-80 ft backcast , but most of the time I'm in the thick of it.  LOFR

You can Spider Rig in North Carolina and Louisiana Jim but the most poles I fish at one time is two when I'm trolling.....I prefer to position my offering with precision which requires me to stay in contact with my pole......I have hundreds of structures marked and I just go point to point until I find one with active fish.......There are very successful spider rig guys that catch great numbers and quality fish especially when fish are hard to find......This method allows these folks to cover large amounts of water in a short period of time.....

jeffrey do you run the trolling motor similar to spider rigging?just creep along forward with the long rods out the front?saw people on reelfoot lake crappie fishing with 4-6 rods out the front several more out the sides.always moving.we can only use 2 rods here so cant really do it.thanks for another great pic.i really gotta move to a swamp or bayou ,even a nice backwater.

So you're not fly casting, but using the rig as a "Long Rod?"
Good adaptation.

I use a wt. forward floating line with a little of the forward taper cut off, then a no knot eyelet in the fly line , and finally about a seven ft piece of 10 lb flourocarbon line as leader, hey if the fish cant see the flourocarbon  it should not matter if it's a little bigger in diameter. and if you get hung up it's strong enough to bend a # 8 long shank hook, and get unhung, and finally a big fat cricket with the barb of the hook buried into the belly  of the cricket so that it releases one drop of cricket juice necter that gets the bluegill excited. LOFR, do you use a fly line with that rig or go with mono?

Thanks Jeffery, these photo bring back so many memories of growing up and fishing  in Louisiana, I dont miss all the snakes, do you have a  fly rod rigged with a porcupine quill ? Thats the way I would be  doing it. LOFR
