I like the Hot Dog Connection. I have also heard that a short stint in the microwave will toughen them up. Usually, they are associated with catfishing and all sorts of whiskerfish baits are based on them. But Ive never thought of using them for gillin'.

I wonder how they would do as a cheap chum. Certainly they would be easier to work with than some of the alternatives.

I forgot, i use to catch Rio Grande, bass and catfish whit it, in a urban pond.

You are right John cut them in circles and four slices is the deal, but I never microwave them so i will try. You had to select the better hot dog, at least in my place is the cheapest, becasuse if is to soft dosent saty to long in the hook. And you had pay attention to the line, to make a little hook set, because is easy for fish to steel it.

I think a better way to cut them than what I've done is to cut circles about an1/8th" thick and divide them into four thin slices .That should make one dog into plenty of tippin' pieces .Plan on trying this again tomorrow eve.

I have to mention someone here on BBG.com advised microwaving them to toughen them a bit so they stay on the hook better .Thanks for the tip ,good one .I think it was in a catfish or Bullhead forum.I add a little salt and vegetable oil back after doing this to replenish some scent and flavor.

I have never tried hotdogs before, but will the next time I go.

Patricia ,some brands stay on the hook better than others .These I had to micro wave a bit to toughen up so theyd stay on better .I should have taken better care with how I cut them too.A short thin slice worked best. This is one of the few times I've gone Gillin with hotdogs.I am gonna keep it up ,it works fine on those Swedish pimples or other thin spoons like Kastmasters and Blue Fox flash spoons.
