Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

6 perch at the same spot as 18 days ago ,last time I fished. Just offshore by the dam . Plain Bucktail Jig floated .Fished for an hour 12:30-1:30.Small rod guides icing over made casting ridiculous at times.

Your right Tony ,I realize that after yesterday .

I feel your pain on the rod guides, John. I finally just purchased another, less expensive rod with bigger guides to dedicate for winter fishing.

Those micro guides have no place on a cold water rod.

Thanks Dick !Only an average 10" or so. Loving these fish more and more because of their willingness to bite  .I want to try them through the ice and get them in the 12" and over range this year at two bigger lakes I have in mind.

John, now that you've mentioned it...
YP's are the one fish besides Pickerel I've caught in the cold here in SC

Yellow perch spawn in late Feb to early March in the Mason-Dixon region. both upper Chesapeake tidal rivers and area lakes and reservoirs.

we usually just filet em with an electric knife.they advise to cut away the belly as there could be heavy metals.yet it is chicago and surrounding town's water supply.yeah it wastes some meat tho,

Didn't mean to open a "can of worms" but thanks for the informative response Jim .

lake michigan does not warm up until june, they claim that is when they spawn.the zebra mussels have made the water very clear so it warms up later than it used to.i could go on and on about our dnr.most states dedicate all revenue from licenses and fees to their dnr, ours goes into the general fund and they give the dnr whatever they feel, illinois is a mess

I looked it up and in Illinois April early May is Perch spawn time .Why the closed season on Perch in June then?
