Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are my goto Bluegill flies. The middle left is a soft hackle and I use various colors, orange, yellow, green and sometimes natural colors of browns and greens. The popper is a new design for me. I have always used cork in stead of craft foam.

Lee.... I used to use mostly chart. as well but I just seem to be able to see the yellow better with these old eyes.....That is a good thought about the legs on the wooly worm. I will give that a try if I ever get back on the water. I have been sick all spring and on antibiotics. I think I am finally

Every now and then I will use a popper as a bobber for a wet fly or nymph and the 1/4" model is sometimes don't like to float very well so I have also tied up a few 3/8" poppers to get a little better 'float'.

Rex Rob..... these flies are close to the 'magic fly' for me but I also am always trying new stuff.

This foam popper is new for me. It is only 1/4" dia. as are my old cork versions. I am sure it will work just as well though and there is no paint to wear off. These are easier to put rubber legs on too. I haven't used any poppers for 3 or 4 years. I have been using the yellow spider instead and it has worked very well and is easier and faster to tie. I just thought I would go back and give the popper a whiz for old time sake. I expect the success rate to be comparable.

Thanks Ray for the come back I'll have to put it on my list of things to try to do.

They do float well. EZ to tie, durable. I don't remember ever tearing one up. I always lose them first. size 10 is my normal but I do use them down to 14 once in a while when the gills keep short striking the 10's.

The top right is the blind squirrel. Sorry about the typo

That foam bug and spyder look just like my favorites Chartrues, Yellow or Black add some rubber legs to the one on the top left and you have another of my favs!

The wooly worm is tied on a curved shank size 10 hook.

The top left is basicly a wooly worm with a rabbit fur tail and either beadchain or plastic bead eyes. I use both type of eyes depending on depth and sink rate I want. The top left is a blind squirrel and it seems to be liked by everything that swims in the small creeks that I fish. I tied it as a carp fly but I can't find any to throw at.

Nice flies Ray I can see every one dong it's thing and catching fish. The top left one almost a scud looking pattern really has my attention.
