This Hybrid pic looks a lot like Black Crappie .I read that like the Black Crappie ,the Hybrid has 7 stiff Dorsal spines and not 6 like the white Crappie . Still confused on the Positive ID of a Hybrid and think its tough to tell them from Black C'S.
Someone over at Pond Boss forum says this about the stocking of Hybrid Crappie: "
They will reproduce but it is believed that their numbers will be less and their offspring inferior."

I know they are deliberately crossed for pond stocking the white and black crappies which slows down the breeding process some how but grow much larger in the ponds with the crossing.
guess its rare ,shoulda thought before I typed
Wow a hybrid Crappie .Any pics here on this site?
Occasionally. All bets are off in that case!
To tell the difference, count the rigid, sharp spines in the dorsal fin. If there's seven or more, it's a black crappie, while 6 indicates a white crappie.
Your right the dead giveaway is the barred pattern
I 've seen many pics of light colored "barred " White Crappie but can't say I recall catching one .I think I would recognize the difference after caching tons of Black C"s though .
