Hey Zach, I caught it using a shiner but I've also caught them with shrimp. The meat can get mushy if not put on ice right away, I'd say it taste more like a Catfish then anything else but a little more gamey.

What type of bait?

When you say soft meat do you mean mushy?

Would you compare them to catfish or crappie in texture and taste?

Hey Zach, I caught it using a Sakespeare Catfish Rod with 20 lb test. Man I love the way they fight, they are so strong! They have very soft meat, I filleted and deep fried it, they are mighty tasty!

What did you catch that fish on?

Did you eat it?

I have heard they are tasty but have not had a chance to eat one yet.

Oh ok i have heard of Bowfins.  I think they are different from Snakeheads but I am not sure.  A Snakehead is an invasive species from Asia I believe.  Their highly aggressive and can decimate a population Frye and small fish.  Florida has problem with them I know for sure and some other states in the south as well.

Not sure what a Snakehead is, some call them Bowfins or Mudfish, here in Southern Louisiana we call them Choupiques.
