I somehow missed this photo up until now, but a comment Bruce made recently about the possibility that the world record bluegill might be a shellcracker got me on here looking...

 

To my mind, that is without a doubt a redear sunfish.  I'm a lot less certain looking at the mounts of Coke McKenzie's fish, as the colors of the paint on said mount are so far off it doesn't look like either species, and the mouth if nothing else looks to me more like a bluegill... 

 

This fish, on the other hand, is a shellcracker, or I've never caught one.

I suppose. Didn't look that close at the article. The Richardson's were nice enough to share some info with me. I have another lead I need to call tomorrow. step by step....
