Minnesota, yes. The first northern I ever caught? A red and white Daredevle.
With water that clear, as you describe, the red may be the ticket.

i have heard that david,by deep i am thinking 10 -15 feet.in summer here the thermocline is around 14-16 feet in the strip pits and quarries i fish.some are nearly vodka clear.like your fishing in a giant aquarium.the weed beds grow deep and the panfish hide in the weeds and dart out to feed.many times i will see the gill flare as they suck in the bait.i think the red is gonna give the same effect.you lived north?in canada and minn red ans white a very popular lure colors

Thanks Jim. Down deep the red will fade - it's the first color in the spectrum to go as light is filtered out by the deeper water. But I still think it's a good addition.

These look good. I'm gonna tie some.

david -i fish a lot of deeper clear water.seems to be where the bigger gills and crappies are in the deep weedlines.i can get a fly on top of them but if they are holding on the deep edges or if it is windy its tough to stay in contact with a fly.that little patch of red really gives that something extra.i hope the fish appreciate it

I like that jig, buddy. I agree about the fly rod - I love it. But other methods are good. I'm especially thinking of vertical presentation over deeper water.
This season I'll have the chance to get off the bank and test this.

th.anks- this is a jig version of the cypert minnow,as i now know its called.many folks on here are not fly fishers.i love the flyrod but not practical in many situations
