I followed what you were asking, it’s hard to assist other anglers fishing for the same species in different regions of the country….so many factors for success yet only one can make a big difference in results……I would imagine your crappie are deeper if those areas are available…..I try to pattern structure and food for crappie…..often in the marsh large schools of Shad fry will be in very shallow water which pulls fish back in to feed….then they locate the natural wood and it becomes safety, another oddity here, these fish are easier to locate in the summer when we all count down to Spring crappie fishing….wish you luck John, if not before, maybe the upcoming Fall will provide a break….

With the paddle style tail the crappie were most often striking on the free fall…….stationary fronts can cause lock jaw in bluegill so I decided to hit this crappie spot but my heart wanted to chase bluegill behind the Buck moon….this area attracts dozens of recreational boaters during the summer so I normally splash at first light and put it on the trailer by ten as the party starts on the water…..a lot of our river crappie will follow the script and suspend deeper John……I first fished this region in June of 1999……with jigs and live crickets, did well with bluegill but I was surprised that I caught a 20 crappie limit. Little did I know then that one trip would create two decades of summer crappie memories…..

Thanks John…..this area of the coastal wetlands is a vast area of  water eight feet or less with an abundant food supply and natural wood for cover……some of the crappie yesterday were in two to three feet of water at 84.6 degrees….the last batch I cleaned a few weeks ago had small Pogy Shad in them so I searched for a mimic, found the Berkley swim bait and tied it under a float to allow for popping similar to the salt water technique…actu mature pogy shad below..
