Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The fish in the center of the net hatched out the end of May and was already in the six-inch range as of the day of this photo (two weeks ago). Half-inch fry to six inches in five months - not bad.

Carl, I traveled to the Apalachicola River each of the past three springs, starting in 2013, to fish it to get brood stock.  I only got seven the first year; last year I got thirty; this past April I got twenty-nine.  Thankfully they have the same prolific breeding habits as their other bluegill brethren and now I have a bunch.

Yes, we had a good harvest, Dick, very good for being the first ever from this pond.  I counted at least six different hatches of fry from the end of May through early October.

Looks like you not short of fry. I have thousands of fry swimming around in my pond now. Don't know what they are but I'm sure there gills.
