I caught this fish back in May literally from a tributary that feeds Richmond Mill Lake, N Carolina. Gum Swamp Creek, and other creeks that feed the lake, traditionally run several degrees colder than the main lake areas. This was one of two redbreast that I caught that were 11 in or better. Although I didn't think much of it at the time, I now realize that it was as much, if not more, of a trophy than just about any other panfish I have ever caught. This spawning male hit an F3 Rapala on the surface and was released.
