Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Don't have anything seasonal since I historically don't catch many winter gills here in Carolina......so I just picked another favorite from the 2012 season....

  1. We get down in the mid 30s for the low end Ken but normally I see 40 to 50 in December and 36 to 40 in January and February.....I fish rivers 90 percent of the time and we may get skim ice in creeks from time to time but not very often.......It normally starts to rebound in March.....

what range of water temps do you experience in the lakes you fish during the winter Jeff?

Kind words Tooty....in order to share information there must first be an interest in a particular thing...Bluegill fishing, Fly tying, Pond Management, Ice Fishing, Grass Shrimp just to name a few.....I'm off scale when it comes to my Bluegill fishing and I had only known a couple folks with as much passion before I joined this site....We're still out numbered quite a bit by Bass Anglers and even by Crappie Guys within the panfish community but I'm o.k. with my ideas just reaching 100 people that may use it versus exposing it to thousands that never will.....Some of the best times I've ever experienced have been wetting a line and chewing the fat over Bluegill Fishing....I just haven't been without my pole for more than 40 years......

Ya know Jeffrey, been watching you and many others since I"ve been on this site and can't think of anyone more qualified to write a book , AND WISH YOU WOULD. TONY is right of course on sensing the dawn of a new Era for you. Hope he's right and your experimenting this year has been a great thing for me too cause it forced me out of my normal box so to speak. Was kind of in a rut making the same old stuff all the time, but along you come and get my creative juices flowing . Bascially the same bugs but in color combos I"d have never tried on my own.

My reasoning was simple: if it ain't broke don't fix it. My bugs always produced for me so why try something new? Well your input into colors , AND SIZES , has had a great effect on my fishing this year , ALL POSITIVE OF COURSE. I NNNNNNNNNNNEVER WOULD HAVE TRIED #10 or #8's without your pressure , or should I say suggestions. Never would have done it cause I thought they were way to big. Ya live and learn, and oh yeah did my share of learning this year with the Raspberry's in particular. Tied in BLUE AND PINK made a believer outta me , SEEING IS BELIEVEING AND YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH SUCCESS!!!

Thanks for all you did for me this year and it's made me a better fisherman and human I hope.

EXPERT TYERS on this site have also helped me even if they don't know it . Got Idea's from Jim Gronaw, REX, LADY JEN, RICK KING, and the list just goes on ! Thanks one and all .
Next year is going to be fun for me cause I get to fish all over the United States hopefully and see , Rick, Dick, You and maybe a few others .

SO MUCH TO LEARN AND SO LITTLE TIME...........THANKS BUDDY

I appreciate it Tony.....I'd like to write the complete book one day about fishing Bluegill year round......got to continue to experiment and work during these colder months....One thing for sure, I've got some great ideas from the members of this site and I just continue to put in the time.......We'll see how it goes.......
