Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Cross yet another one off the species list! First fish of the day was this 8 1/2" seed. Thought I had a big Crappie at first.

…and since they're not native to michigan... they must have been stocked

finally a few lakes up here are being stocked

I've done a little looking on my own, and I believe I have to agree with you all!  Not my first P'seed, but my first Gillcracker.

I'm actually thinking it's a gillcracker (BG x RES) on this one. Check out the cheek mottling and the rusty tab on the operculum.

Here's a similar one I caught.

Unfortunately, that was the only pic I took of it.  Yes, there are Shellcrackers/Redeared Sunnies in this lake, I caught one of those as well.

Got any more pics of the fish you've posted here Allen? Distinct wavy blue lines from the lips and snout back across cheeks smacks of Pseed.

Allen -Here's what I'm calling a BGXPS hybrid .

The more I look at this fish Allen it looks more and more like a red ear sunfish
Are there Red ear stocked in your Lake?

Since this is the first P'seed I've caught, I wouldn't know enough about the species to identify a BG x PS hybrid.
