Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anyone ever use a balance jig? I have been getting some great action on this one as of late. I took a tip from Slip Sinker and switched from my Gulp! natural maggots to the pink ones, and the bluegills seem to really love it.

This is a large jig for me...2.5cm in length. it has a fine wire hook, great for sticking live bait and keeping it wriggling. I have been hanging this beneath a slip float, around 6' down. I hook the Gulp! through one end, and let it hang off.

I had a few close calls and a gut hooked 1/32 jig on 5 to 6 inch class, with 1/4 crawler. When they're hungry, they don't mess around.

I've actually upscaled my jigs lately to 1/32 oz sizes due to the many large fish that are taking smaller offerings too deep to ensure a safe release. With 107 gills over 10 inches this year I want to make sure that everyone I release survives. Mine are more like 3 cm long with a #8 hook. A 12 inch hybrid still takes those too deep where I fish, so I pursue them with the Bill Modica spoon tactics...some of them still inhale it!

Also, done well this year when we tip with the Angleworms from Gulp!

Is it me, or is the printing size of these letters very small?

Tony; that is a good idea; ice jigs ; tipped with a bait sounds great !

I have a few of those, and similar designs, primarily to entice the unresponsive fishes during winter time when the bites are practically dead. The reaction is 50/50, but with a nice crawler break dancing on the hook, the odd was more in my favor.
