Do you love big bluegill?
Found a steep drop off into a 14 foot hole and the Crappie and Gills were active......wound up catching 42 gills up to 10".....most were 8 to 9 inchers...good eating! Surface temps were 41 to 44 degrees today.....

Oh yeah.....I broke skim ice last winter looking for gills......I'll be out there trying something but it's taken time and effort to convince myself of critical cold water applications like size and movement.....I might order some spikes in the coming weeks too.........Today was fun and it certainly wasn't cold by Northern standards but water temperature was 41 and that's demanding around these parts......
I can remember advising you, not that long ago either, that you could catch BG all winter long if you switched tactics.....
especially the northern strain. Now, let's bring on the actual cold weather and get to it!
Thanks Tony.....successful cold water anglers on this site are my inspiration this time of year.....The biting Crappie could have made it tough today but I went fishing telling myself I was going to concentrate on the gills and I wound up with both..........good day though......
There you go.....It's cool watching you get a handle on the cold water BG bite!
Thanks Andy.....had a real good time......chilly but low wind conditions......
