Do you love big bluegill?
The bass don't spook and retreat like the panfish do in my opinion......when a spot that's three feet at pool drops to a foot or so then arriving fish return to staging areas or beyond....particularly when water temperatures are bouncing as they have been recently......But getting out is always the goal so I'm thankful to have gotten a few tugs on the line......

Yeah, looks like a chilly weekend. I will be at Camp SeaFarer working the obstacle course this weekend. I will probably concentrate the fishing time I get off the river pier. Gulp shrimp under a bobber.
Couldn't agree more Andy......want a little sweat on the brow if you will.......dogwoods are fully bloomed and many other trees are popping........it can't be long now although I see 31 for a low this Sunday!
"Catching a few Speckled Trout and Puppy Drum sounds like fun" - well, yes and no. Catching is always nice, but one reason I am thinking about specs is that spring cold snaps seem to turn them on. Some of the best catches are in the most miserable conditions. I like best catches, but not miserable conditions...
I am so ready to be fishing comfortably in shorts and a T shirt. This winter just refuses to go away. I know; another month and I probably will have forgotten this. But I though that a month ago also...
Thanks Carl......Hope you stay on them Jim........Good Friday is traditionally more significant around the Albemarle than the first day of Spring because our last freeze of the season is often as late as Easter........I'm tracking with you Andy.......near freezing tomorrow night and again later during the weekend......I'll take next weekend off from fishing as my dear wife and I will celebrate 28 years of marriage.......she puts up with my addiction all year so she deserves a break...LOL.....Catching a few Speckled Trout and Puppy Drum sounds like fun Andy!
I am grumbling about the 10 day. Next weekend at Y camp down in the tidal Neuse area we are likely to see 30s Saturday night. I may have to work the river for speckled trout and puppy drum instead of the ponds for gills. Oh woe is me. ;^> The bass fishing is on fire at lakes near me according to some reports I am reading.
I haven't seen water above the 40 degree mark since the beginning of December! I'm glad to have a couple of venues that 'fish good' right after the thaw.
good to see you got out Jeff- even if you did get a few green carp!! LOL
Thanks Mark......work is a grind right now.........Sunday weather has been suspect for weeks now....LOL.......water temperatures dropped a few degrees this week and we have a few more sub 40 degree nights in the 10 day predictions.......we're getting very close but we need a Bermuda High if you will.........I don't have to tell you about the MARCH winds around thee parts! Everything North of the Sound will be down a couple feet by Wednesday....
glad you made it out for a few greenies! congrats!
Thanks Andy and Slip.......Fishing provides me the mental hygiene I need to keep my professional saw sharp.....so even if it's merely a few largemouth and a lone crappie that came off near the boat......I'm good! Very soon most folks will be complaining of humidity and the resulting heat index........not this angler.......I live for those days!
