Its a 5 fish, 12-inch minimum in MD with a closed season from March 1 to June 15. They actually call the closed season a 'catch and release' season. Tidal water has different regs with larger minimum sizes.
Up around the Albermarle they don't exempt 2 like they do in most of NC either. Most of NC it's 5 bass and 2 can be any size.
My family has always eaten little bass where legal to keep.......I fished the Louisiana rice fields as a kid and always remember my Mother and I fighting over those fillets..........Carolina east of I-95 is a 14" minimum and I only keep a few a year to stuff with lump Blue Crab meat.........Virginia has no minimum so I get to reminisce with a few "school" bass from time to time........
Carl is right...3 or 4 of them and we eat!
I actually make a yearly habit of keeping a 5 fish limit of smaller, 12 to 15 inch bass for a meal when I get the urge for fish cakes. Hadn't had one yet that tasted bad!
Thanks Carl..........nope Jim........this one is down on the Pasquotank.....
That dock looks familiar, Jeff! Is it?
thats a good eating size green carp to!!
See the mark on the pier/ladder where this creek is down over a foot today.........
