Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My son is calling these "liberal" flies, because they have bleeding hearts. I just laughed!
Your basic Super Cypert Minnow with red marabou quills added behind the eyes.
I left the tail a bit longish (hook shank length); it just looks good to me that way.

Looks real good man! And yeah I had no idea the 3ft of tubing isn't going to be enough, I need to order like ten more packages.

Well, Andy, I appreciate you.
I live 8 minutes from one of the premier crappie lakes in the SE. In fact, ol Dick Tabbert caught his personal best - an 18" beast - from this same lake. You'd think I'd at least see one now and then, right?
Personally, I think I give off some anti-crappie vibe, something they can sense when I hit the water.
Who knows, I may go the rest of my fishing life and never see one.

McScruff we need to work on that crappie issue!!! One of those minnows, a small split shot, no bait, tight line, and water crappies for sure!!!! Tare em up and fillet em!!!!

You can find the step-by-step on You Tube. Just look up Super Cypret Minnow.

You may not know, but Ive never caught a crappie. I'll tkae that back - in years of fishing Ive caught two. TWO.

They avoid me like I'm a leper.

But Ive caught gar, now that you mention it. Im sure we dont have drum or smallies, though.

Those are nice David. Think I am going to have to try that one out!

Scruff, whenever you fish something that looks like a minnow or a shad, you can expect to catch ANYTHING.  In addition to what you listed, add Crappie, Smallmouth, Drum, Gar, ect.

Well, I am starting to feel the "low alert nerves" myself.

After tying these Cyperts, I realized just 3 feet of the Mylar braid will never do. I'll probably have to get some more, plus braided cord and'/or small cactus chenille for the body, while I'm at it.

I like 8-10's for the gills we get here. Plus there is always the chance at a few other things here: largemouth, catfish and perch come to mind. I've caught all these while brim fishing.
