they kinda bleach out here.i catch seeds in the spring that have hardly any color.bass crappies gills all the same.
Sunlight? Could be, I guess. Stupid fish don't know that tanning is bad for you now... ;^>
andy- they all turn pale up north here .not so much when ice fishing but when the thaw comes.lack of sun light?
The gills in my neighborhood pond are pretty ghostly right now (see my latest blog entry) and if you look on my photos at my kids with a couple from the same pond in warm weather they are very dark. I think it is what they have been eating in the recent past.
Perosnally I think it's all enviornment myself
nice Jeff... i used to think the lightened color was due to the ice... in your case cold water.... im catching silvery pearl colored gills under the ice ... but look at clayton catching those dark monsters... many more environmental factors are probably the most significant factors. possibly genetics also.
6 like that in an afternoon is not awful in my book. Especially with the bream and kitties thrown in.
sounds like you had a good day any way Jeff!!
Thanks Tooty....thought I was on my way to a 20 fish limit of Black Crappie......started catching one bullhead after another and the crappie bite ended......all good......I was releasing everything today anyway......
Nice Crappie Jeffrey and I'd sure like to catch a few dozen of those for sure !!!!!!! Just got done having company here and before that plowed snow again ! Not much snow this time only bout an 1 1/2" or so but roads were slippery today for sure....
