Had a great 35 day period down in the Low Country of South Carolina......Caught some nice Fliers, a few Crappie, Bass and finally some awesome Coppernose the last few days....It was good to get back on some old honey holes that I haven't fished in years and have them produce.....Just trust your instincts and take notes, even if they are just mental....South Carolina has some World Class Bluegill fishing and what a good time when you get in to them!

Most of this photo album is from the last few weeks down in coastal South Carolina....These are some of the reasons that South Carolina as a state for Gills and good fishing is in my top three......The only concern I have for these areas is over fishing as hundreds of folks pound these coastal tributaries in search of big bluegill and shellcrackers......I counted 73 boat trailers at one location on the Cooper river yesterday.....In the early 80s when I lived here that count rarely exceeded 10 at the same spot.......I checked it every day this past week at 11:30 and the lowest number was 17.....it's a beautiful place and I have caught several two pound plus fish in this region but I fear it will be a fishing tale soon rather than a prized bluegill destination. Coming down here on travel is a good lesson in conservation for me as I have released every fish this month and I have found personal satisfaction in doing that......Don't get me wrong....fresh fried bluegill filets are my favorite meal and I eat many.....it's just an observation in this region......The places I grew up in southern Louisiana are seeing more and more pressure every year and I have the same fear!

If I get out the remainder of July it will probably be a crappie stalk on the coastal marsh……
