And I was just thinking back to a 15 pound blue cat that broke one of my larger telescopic poles and this fish has 90 pounds on him....lol...........I've had big break offs in both Toledo Bend and Santee Cooper and you always wonder how big those fish are.........it's crazy to think.........Lake Gaston has some nice panfish populations as well so these big cats are eating well!

Never done that but I've seen a guy do it on the Shenendoah River .I think he was netting sculpins for smallmouths.

John;; for what its worth; a lot of guys in my area;; use a cast net; throw it to catch what we have here is gizzard shad;; very excellent bait for cat fish  go close to a bank; you can see the shad; working the area;; one cast can net a dozen or more; dump into a bucket; cast again; the go cat fishing..  learning to cast the net; properly; can be fun ! but rewarding !!

Hey John the " North Carolina Sportsman" magazine has a pretty good article/discussion on the events........fish were caught on cut bait......"white perch" caught in the lake in which there is a huge population and no wonder these fish are getting so large........drifting baits on the bottom in 50 to 60 feet of water......the week before Christmas..........angler is a guide and very experienced on Gaston but it's still crazy........both fish were released as well........business will be booming!
