Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Worms, popper float and small circle hook.
My little #8 Aberdeen hooks were being constantly swallowed, so I switched to the circle type. Worked like a charm. These are #5's, something a tad smaller is in order.
This time of year the fish seem willing to strike on anything that sinks through the water. I was getting takes on bare hooks, in fact. It is a halcyon time of year.

Nice memory, Dave.
Fishing under trees in the rain is a classic trick.
200 fish in an hour is indeed awesome. One might say, that, in the world of fishing, it is near idyllic.

I'm cursed with one of those "wordy" minds, I'm afraid.

YA KNOW DAVID one time my old buddy Doug and I were down in southern Illinois and we had a Halcyon day in the rain. WE GOT 200+ gills in less than an hour using floating spiders under mulberry bushes with bobbers. It was a day I'll never forget and best day of fishing, as far as numbers goes, we ever had together.......

Yeah, David, I like those fancy words.

Thanks, Leo. I try to keep it simple, while experimenting at the same time.
Its a balancing act, I guess. If left to my own devices, I would have no place to sit for all the gear and tackle I might collect. Gonna try to find some 6 or 8 curdle hooks, next.

HALCYON TIME OF THE YEAR, I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!!!! YA know David there used to be a fly rod tube maker called Halcyon. There were great tubes but think maybe outta buisness now , what a shame.....

Love the circle hooks. I'm trying the sickle hooks next. The aberdeen hooks are for flies to use on trouts now. No more panfish.

Thanks, Carl. Fish like this are nice.
There were some smaller, and one at least as big. But this is the only pic I took.
I'm a worm guy. I admire all the flies and jigs and other artificials, but I'm not a purist like that.

Oh, I tinker with them, but at the end of the day I like the natural food of the fish themselves. Worms are easy to raise and handle, so I always have them on hand.
Their one drawback us they are universal...you are liable to catch anything with them.
