Do you love big bluegill?
First ice outing this season for us. Air temps were in the low to mid 20s with a 15-20mph sustained wind for most of the afternoon. It was a really slow bite today for about a 4 hour afternoon outing. This was my first fish on my new ice rod. No gills for me, just four perch around this size. Dad got a couple smaller perch and one small gill. We had fun and made the most of it anyway since we may not get on the ice after today since it's supposed to warm up a bit next week.

Thanks, John and Jeffrey. It's looking like it may be only ice outing we get this year with the upcoming warming temps. We had a little more than 5" of ice to fish on during this outing. We'll have to see how the lake rebounds in the following years, John
Nice outing Adam......glad you and your dad got out for a while and caught some fish........be careful with that changing weather...........I can't give specific advice with no experience on ice myself but we always hear more about the people that find trouble on the ice than those catching fish..........
Sorry to hear about the Fish kIll you had ,my home lake had a fishkill and the fish I caught afterwards were fewer and smaller . Something like that forces one to learn more about other lakes which saved the season for me .
My inline reel got the most fish last season .They are great on dead stick rods for Bluegills and Perch . Glad you got out Adam ,I'm still hoping to get the chance soon .
I hope we get more chances this season to, Slip. I like it so far for the first time out. The drag system doesn't really seem all that great, but that shouldn't be much of a problem in the areas I fish as I don't get into to many really big fish. Brand new line and had no problems coiling and tangling. I've got Suffix Ice Magic monofilament on this reel. No electronics for us yet, maybe someday. This was the second time we've fished this reservoir. It's got a lot of perch, but they're pretty stunted, the fish in the pic is a higher end fish from what we've caught and what some others have said. Last year we got dozens of perch, but very small. Fun nonetheless. We went to this place because our primary ice fishing lake had a major winterkill last season that took a heavy toll on the lake's fish population; so bad that carp and bullhead were even floating around the shorelines at ice out.
sounds like you had fun!... hope the ice lasts for you long enough to break in that new rod.
how do you like the in line reels?
what line are you using?
are you using electronics?
and the Y.Perch they are a blast in the winter hey.. you can almost always count on them
