I would love to head down that way (Port Charlotte) and paddle Cayo Costa (I would cheat and take a ferry out and back).

The winter fishing I liked most was trout fishing in the Colorado River at Glenwood Springs. They're hot springs and where they flow into the river there are rocks arranged to corral some of the warm water before it mixes. You can wade in shorts and cast into a river with chunks of ice floating by. It was right under the footbridge to the hot springs pool. My wife and I used to get this deal where you take the train from Denver and ski at Sunlight (small by CO standards so pretty cheap), hot springs passes and a room for about the price of a lift ticket in Aspen (35 miles away).

The Savannah region is very close to the Low Country of South Carolina and I often began to catch staging gills in late February and early March.......water temps will be the most significant factor.......big swings serve to confuse fish where as a steady gradual climb can be very rewarding.......an example would be 49 degrees for say three days in a row and then rising to 50 degrees for several more days and so on........enjoy your trip Andy and share your success with us!

Just went on WeatherUnderground and the whole 10 day forecast has 40s for highs. :(

I fixed, it though; I clicked on Tampa... :)

3 weeks from Friday I head down to Savannah; not quite Tampa but averages for late Feb are around 70. They have 50s and 60s in their 10 day right now.

I respect every angler's effort and determination Slip......the majority of it turns out to be where we get introduced to fishing I guess........I think nothing of fishing on 100 degree days but most wouldn't even consider it......I've caught crappie year round my entire life but have enjoyed a recent determination to entice cold water gills.......

i went out for a few minutes yesterday ... it was brutal... the hole would freeze over in less than 2mins

spring up here usually still means ice fishing... last year the ice wasnt gone till 3/4 thru April

Well I certainly hope everyone that loves to ice fish gets to scratch that itch before us warm weather guys are back at it full time......I'm sure I would ice fish if I had the chance but I'm also certain I wouldn't trade the warm weather fishing I have locally for anything.........

I love my ice fishing but you will never hear me complain about spring, warmer weather and open water fishing....:)
