Coloration can be influenced by the foods they eat, or the composition of the water. Of great importance are factors tied to strain genetics of the fishes, too.

From what I've learned about the spread of bluegill and bass in S. Africa, it was widespread from the beginning. It didn't just happen in one pond. Different fish planted to different areas, and roughly 85 years of development would account for what you are seeing.

coloration usually has to do with the food they eat, or the mineral composition of the water. Other factors tied to strain genetics of the fishes plays a part, too.

Thanks, the color of the BG here vary from dam to dam. I wander why that is? In another dam they are silver.

Mathew

Arture is fishing for multiple freshwater or species under 25 cm using artificial lures and UL tackle, no bait. The object is to  catch as many different types of fish as possible  My understanding it started in South Africa. I've added a link to a site that explains Arture fishing.

Enjoy

What is an artlure? I am very new to fishing. To catch this one I used a dry fly, when I here the gurgle of a BG taking something off the surface, I cast there and slowly retrieve it. It works pretty well here.
