Wow is that right Zach! Would love to catch a Flathead Catfish !I've only handled Bullheads and Channel Cats before.
Tony -I have trouble with Warmouth and think I've caught one in my long fishing life but I'm still not sure if it was an actual Warmouth .Rock Bass I've caught before but they are not in the waters I usually fish ,but they are nearby.
We call them "Black Perch" here and they are the preferred bait for Flatheads.
Kinda looks like a green sunfish. What ever it is it isn't undernourished.
Agreed, the GSF are the easiest to differentiate of the three. It's the other two that seem to cause most of the problems.
This is a fine pregnant specimen ,get her back in the water! Head scratching event ,heh heh . The blue spots on the sides ,the yellow tinge on the outer edges of the fins and the Large Mouth size are what I go by .
John's right, that's a Green Sunfish. Warmouth are a different fish, and around here Goggle-eyes are Rockbass...
Those three fish, Warmouth, Green Sunfish, and Rockbass, are sometimes confused, as their body shapes are very similar, and coloration varies from one BOW to the next. Add to that the various nicknames that are sometimes used interchangeably among those fish according to one's location, and you have the makings of a head scratching event.
I call em green sunfish, too.
I call them a Green Sunfish
