Rob, I use the long pole for presenting ice jigs to early season panfish in extremely cold water. I use an un-weighted fixed pencil bobber instead of a slip float....this causes the float to stand up when a fish takes the bait instead of a hard to detect bobble of a weighted slip float....this setup was introduced to me by John Trossen, a highly respected Lake Geneva guide.

 

All my other panfish rods are 7'- 7'6".....and are ideal for spoon fishing and drop shotting.

Bill whats with the super long pole? Are you using it to presents baits to those spooky spring time gills and crappie.I am in the market for a new pole this spring.For exactly those reasons,but it will be used year round.I'm thinking a 7ft light action rod will do a fine job for me,any thoughts on this?
