Actually, my 8 year old son landed that one! We picked it up at Diamond Valley, near Hemet. We've been fishing it pretty hard lately but haven't managed any toads. As the water warms I'm thinking we should start picking up some bigger ones.

Pretty sure that's not a hybrid. Looks like possibly a coppernose from the gill plate, and CA has stocked those in a few lakes...Did you catch it in Lake Perris, Tim?

I have only heard of "plate sized" gills, now I know it is real!!! Specatular fish!
