So a Saugeye is a hybrid Walleye / Sauger Allen ? How big can they get?
I've never caught a Walleye. But, there's a lake that I fish that is stocked with Saugeyes. And, we have native Saugers in the river I fish. I haven't caught any of those in years, but that one Winter that I was catching them, was a hoot! Most 1/8 jigheads with Twister tail grubs, but sometimes on minnows. And, I've caught a really small Sauger on a Chartreuse-over-White Clouser with my 5wt fly rod.
Welcome Art Cole , Allen Morgan ,Jim Gronaw, Dick Tabbert, Slip Sinker and David Eitutis.! Look forward to your input on catching the good sized great eating Walleye!
Thanks for joining Jim Gronaw .I like your Walleye pics !
Instead of putting the shot below the floating jighead ,in the past I just split shotted the rig and held it in a channel from shore for perch during low water .
Last Walleye I caught was in an Eddy by the fastest current in the area.
John we put a sinker on the bottom and tie the floating jig head about 18 to 20 inches above that, but the river here where we fish is from 3 to 5 foot deep and lots of time a fast current..
Thanks for that input Dick ! I have to try the floating jig head approach on Walleyes ,Funny, I have caught perch that way using a mister Twister Exude Hellgrammite .
Almost as good tasting as perch and 3 or 4 times more fun to catch. Most the river fishing is done with a floating jig heads with a twister tail on it. Lake fishing is some king of weight forward spinner with a crawler on it. I have caught 100's with 1/4 oz jigs.
Shad Raps, Husky Jerks, Keitech 'easy shiner' spinner rigs .These are the lures that have caught Walleye from 18-24" for me in Rivers and Lakes.
