Chuck ,when does ice fishing usually start for you ? Here it seldom starts ,for me at least, before Christmas and usually I guess around New Years . My fishing time preferences ,'bout the same as you for morn and about 3pm -dark. The crappies start hitting a little before dark which I really like sometimes that's when I get more White Perch too.  .Yellow Perch are great though because they'll hit all day .Just gotta fish the effective depth. In my small lake I usually catch them midday about 12' but other lakes it can be 20' or more .  I usually fish the evening bite .In the morn I'm drinking coffee and visiting this site !

john, One lake I fish for perch has a channel running into it, but a couple other ones have no running water entering them.  I usually work the drop offs in around 20 feet of water as I work around the lake.  I like the underwater bays and points.  I have my best luck for winter perch right at sun up till about 9am and sundown till dark.  When is your favorite ice fishing times?

Chuck, can I venture to guess some of your spots have water entering the lake nearby ?

I have been catching a lot of bluegills this summer, but now I am going to be going for yellow perch here in southern Michigan.  I have marked some good looking spots on the lakes while bluegill fishing and I am anxious to give them a try for perch.

Four white Perch mixed with lots of Gills on bottom 6-10 fow in a hole near a relatively steep bank .Slow retrieve .'Hus 'spoons tipped with worms or Hotdog pieces.

Caught a few Yellow Perch and one white Perch near the NE Finger where a stream enters the lake .Many follow ups that were rejected and many short nips at the tail .The takes generally came close to the boat when the Jig spin retrieve was stopped and it sunk .The perch dove down and grabbed it . This trigger didn't always work but a moderately  quick retrieve and drop was the way to go.
