Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

So im out on the lake with no internet service fly fishing for the first time last year and had to retie a leader… I used the nail knot with the help of the straw and the internet at home and I forgot how to tie the darn knot. I tried for about a half an hour and came up with something that was close but get this… EASIER TO TIE! AND NO NAILS OR STRAWS!!. It seems to have the relative same knot strength, but I can tie this knot in the dark. Try it out. I couldn’t find any reference on line close so I called it what I exclaimed at the dock. SCREW THE NAIL KNOT!

i have just found a reference to this knot (NAILLESS NAIL KNOT) i like my name better lol

Ken;; in my trade we use to call that one a surgeons knot.  winter time is also a good time to learn knots.  check out knot wars!!

i disagree look closer... the leader knot is the only tag involved in the knot ... the fly line is under compression.. and is not used in the knot construction at all... just like the nail knot the fly line is not used at all in the tie. you would never use a surgeons knot to tie leader to fly line. the fly line is to thick.

however im still looking

here is a closer look at the final knot with braid... looks like a nail knot when done

it is tied very similar to one of the many ways to tie a slip bobber knot...

Yes, it's very much like it

a good knot carl, use it to attach tippet.i always have a loop end on my flyline as i had nail knots come loose.i think a nail knot with the straw is the one i use to make bobber stops

Found it.....

Wheres the nail?

I've got a little tool made just for this, although I'm not sure where I put it.
Once I learned about no knot eyelets and knotless leader connections, I never looked back.
I've yet to use the tool.

i used  use that method but it can come off the end of the fly line.especially with braid as it slips and will cut into the fly line.they make add on loops that are secured with shrink wrap, you can double over the end of the fly line wrap it with tying thread and then shrink wrap it.

if you use this knot with both ends you can make leaders

Twin leaders?
