Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

work in progress...

Recipe for Success

2-3” Berkley Power Minnows or equivalent

1/32 – 1/16 oz jig… the lighter the jig the better

UL spinning rig… I used a 5-6’ ft UL Berkley Skins rod (lightest rod on the planet…lol)

2# test Fireline ice braid

50 series reel

** caught my 5# plus Master Angler SMB on this rig

One of the recommended setups

The Dying Minnow Process

Make a long cast and let the presentation sink to the bottom… twitch snap or crawl the bait in. In areas with weedy bottoms a swimming retrieve above the snags with an occasional twitch while retrieving…. The point is try to make the presentation look wounded. The in the side or flat hook up enhances this appearance. This presentation tags the big preds as well as the big panfish. I've had my best luck this year on the tiny presentations. Good Luck!

tip for crappie... fish the bait up in the water column. twitch the rod tip erratically or slow swim the bait... it depends on their mood.

remember gaining confidence in a new presentation requires the fish to be present!! LOL

an older In-Fisherman video with Doug Stange rigging Berkley Flat Back Shads sideways and flat as a rubber jig trailer... kinda gave me the idea to rig in a similar fashion to represent a dying minnow while twitched along the borttom.
