Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are an inexpensive alternitive to buying poppers!!!!!!! Requires a little preparation in materials but are easy to do!!!!! First of a all you need flip flops this time of the year they are on close out, and for about a dollar a piece at dept. stores or a store by the same name!!!! Next stop a hardware store for an assortment of 1/4" , 3/8" and 1/2" X 6" nipples black steel works just fine, and of course a hammer!!!!!

Using the nipples and hammer punch out the bodies from the flipflops!!!! DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT DO THIS STEP AT THE KITCHEN TABLE!!!!!! Trust me on this!!!!! After you have bodies punch out hook preparation. I use size 4 aberdeen crappie hooks with a 3/8" body. Hook in the vice and put a layer of thread along the hook shank and coat the threads with super glue!!!!!! allow to dry.

Using your bodkin needle push it thru the body on the bottom 1/3rd of the body!!

Add super glue to the threads and insert body on the hook point and slide into position!!!!!! Allow to dry!!!!

From here trim body to the shape you want or leave it as is!!!!!

To add rubber legs I use a needle and a fine piece of copper wire theaded thru the eye of the needle with a loop on the end of the wire. Push needle thru the body and thread rubber legs thru the loop in wire!!! Pull thru the body to trim to length later!!!!!

Reattach your thread and tie in the tail, this was with maribou. Body, tie in your hackle and palmer forward!!!! Tie off it is ready to fish!!!!!! The body can be painted if you would like but flipflops come in all colors!!!!!! Body and tails are whatever you prefer!!!!! You are only limited to your IMAGINATION!!!!!Inexpensive and easy to tie and fun to fish!!!!!!

Becareful Richard, That can be a dangerous thing but, post a picture if you survive!!!!!!!!

Awesome poppers. Nice work Greg!

Ronnie, They are not as PRETTY as a STINE POPPER!!!!!!! But I would hate to lose one of his!!!!!!

Glad you like it!!!!!

A GREAT SIMPLE TIE FROM YOU GREG!!! BET THEY WORK GREAT TOO!

Great job Mike! Another genious way to make use of materials!!

Mike , They look GREAT!!!!!! They will perform double duty keeping you fly boxes DUST FREE!!!! GOOD JOB!!!!!

Hi i use a 44mag case to punch mine out with i sharpened the edge it works good.Sleepy

Mark, When I cut them out with pipe nipples I have to push them out with a screw driver !!!!!! How does it work with shell casings?????

Hi i use my bodkin to pick them out, i need to drill the primer out so i can use a dowel to push them out. Sleepy

That a great idea , I think I will tie some this winter.. except smaller and hand cut. Wish i could find a good sinking rubber in several colors. My favorite is dark green for tying spiders.....
